Being an entrepreneur is pretty cool until shit hits the fan.
What did you think being an entrepreneur was?
There are going to be amazing days when everything seems to work fine, your entire task list is ticked off, and you have the ability to get 8 hours of sleep.
And on the bad days when nothing works, no matter how hard you try, everyone else is busy, so you have no one to speak to and get advice from. You’re on your own, your bank account balance is running low, and that latest B2B deal you thought would work out didn’t.
As you step into the journey, you realize what you need to take care of. For example, there's wealth and there's health that's wealth. Without the latter it's unlikely that you will get to the former.
Then there's the fashion magazine perspective on entrepreneurship where it looks easy and you make millions. We all know that's not how it goes. There are prices we have to pay to play at this game, and if we get caught up in the shiny objects, we may end up giving up what we wish we didn't. Your sanity or community, for example.
There’s to be so many ups and downs along the way; that’s why many wannabe entrepreneurs don’t stick around for long. It’s a very hard journey that requires patience, a few magical potions to keep you going, and you working on the right things that matter.
It's an interesting point because thinking the path of being a founder is easy makes it way harder. Everyone might have rooted for you when you left that $60,000-a-year tech job to start your own startup, but now they understand that everything is going downhill. You can either figure out a way to stick to it or else figure out other options.
Getting punched in the face in entrepreneurship is a day-to-day thing. You can't be a great boxer without being punched a few times :)
